Estimation of soil erosion and sediment yield concentration across the Kolleru Lake catchment using GIS

Abstract Flat lakes with a large catchment area are especially affected by sediment inputs. The Kolleru Lake (south-eastern India) surface of approximately 6121 km 2 belongs to such types lake basins. study’s main objective was the assessment both soil erosion and yield concentration rate catchment. study conducted using revised universal loss equation (RUSLE) model due its simple good applicability for estimation. Data as rainfall, texture, topography, crop cover management, support practice factor were integrated into modeling RUSLE ArcGIS. Field data used analyze texture slope length factor. results showed that average annual estimated 13.6 t/ha/year, classifying Basin under very high category. About 38% has encountered slight loss. Areas covered moderate, strong, severe, severe potential zones 29%, 17%, 9%, 5.5%, respectively. This identified upland areas less vegetation exported rates. Unlike loss, delivery ratio values not land use, while it strong relationship drainage system. Whereas, determined 7.61 had same pattern erosion. Catchment vegetation, system, properties, use played major role in exporting highest sedimentation. outcome these studies can be among others identify critical on pixel basis planning management practices.
